{O/C} There were tears of joy in Italy as the U.S. Army "returned" a stolen cake to a soon-to-be 90-year-old Italian woman after starving American soldiers apparently nabbed and devoured her birthday cake destined for her 13-year-old birthday back in 1945.

It was reported that Meri Mion's mother baked her a birthday cake and left it on the window ledge of the attic in which she and her mother spent the night hiding, surrounded by German soldiers. Yet hungry American soldiers nearby couldn't help but snatch the cake.
U.S. soldiers tried to make amends by returning a birthday cake to the once disappoiinted lady with a song 77 years later, markng the day the 88th Infantry Division scythed through the city on April 28th, 1945.
Mion was seen so ecstatic and wiping away tears, saying she would enjoy the cake with her family tomorrow.
