Scientists reaching the tallest tree in the Amazon

{O/C} {Finally}

A "tree-mendous" mission was accomplished in the Amazon rainforest.

{RVO}

I'm talking about this enormous tree in the Iratapuru River Nature Reserve in northern Brazil at 290 feet, or 88.5 metres tall -- around the height of a 25-storey building.

Coupled with the maze-like rainforest, reaching the tree was one tall order, literally.

University of Cambridge scientists discovered the tree in 2019, and took around three years and five expeditions to plan their two-week trek through the dense jungle between September 12 and 25 this year.

The trip was literally trail-blazing -- 300 miles through the rapids of the Jari River and 25 miles through native forest "never before visited by man".
