Good evening.
Chief Executive John Lee today unveiled his maiden policy address.
Policy Address
Land & Housing
Land supply and housing remained front-and-centre on the incumbent administration's agenda.
As such, the overall land supply in the coming 30 years will be over 7,000 hectares, exceeding the demand of some 6,000 hectares by about 1,000 hectares.
The projected demand for public housing in the next 10 years is estimated at 301,000 units.
The Chief Executive also embraced the new Light Public Housing, which could provide up to 30,000 units in the coming five years.
He said the government would make use of government and private land with no development plan in the near future and adopt standardised simple design to build LPH units expeditiously.
There will also be a limit on the waiting time for Public Rental Housing units.
Youth Development
To nurture Hong Kong's youth, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau will publish the first edition of the Youth Development Blueprint within this year to outline the government's principles, objectives and actions.
In addition, the government is planning to launch the Youth Participation Initiative to give them a better understanding of public affairs, while having a global perspective and positive outlook.
Healthcare System Reform
As for revamping the healthcare system, the government will publish the Primary Healthcare Blueprint later this year, with district health centres coordinating primary healthcare services for citizens.
The government will also allow elderly spouses to share their healthcare vouchers and widen the voucher scheme's coverage to include various primary healthcare services.
Transport Infrastructure
When it comes to transport infrastructure, the government is poised to launch three major schemes and strategic railway projects respectively to achieve the goal of expediting infrastructure construction and increasing development capacity.
The projects encompass the Northern Metropolis Highway, Shatin Bypass and the Tseung Kwan O-Yau Tong Tunnel.
At the same time, the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link project will connect Hung Shui Kiu with Qianhai to facilitate travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, as well as the Greater Bay Area.
COVID
The city today registered 4,734 COVID infections locally, along with 390 imported cases.
12 patients have also passed away.
U.S. Abortion Legislation Front-and-centre
U.S. President Joe Biden has vowed safeguarding abortion rights will be prioritised amid inflation worries.
Meanwhile, nasty wars of words erupted between Senate candidates during several debates last night.
Weather
To the weather.
Experts say it will be blustery tomorrow with sunny intervals.
