New capital sparkles in Egypt, but sparks questions

{O/C} {Also tonight}

An enticing new capital, part of a megaproject near Cairo in Egypt does stand out in scale and style.

But to the "have-nots" and middle-class families, they're paying full attention to the hefty price tag.

Juxtaposed with the crumbling streets of Cairo, the new administration capital just outside Cairo embodies the grandiose spirits of the country's unassailable leader, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

(More details below)

Six years in the making with a hefty cost of 59 billion U.S. dollars, it is the grandest in a series of megaprojects spearheaded by el-Sisi, who's determined to reshape Egypt.

But as Egypt lurches from political upheaval to an atrocious economic downturn, the poor are amplifying doubts as to whether the country can actually afford such projects.

This, given Egypt's three loans amounting to about 20 billion dollars in all.

And this lands Egypt right in a heap of economic trouble.

Experts say the president is "borrowing money from abroad to build a massive city just for the rich."
