549 of the deceased, many of whom engineers who kept the lights on, were from Southampton, a city in England. This had the story of Titanic forever etched into Southampton's history.
Wreaths were laid at the memorial.
Among the well-wishers were tour guides and even a distant relative of the owner of the grim-fated vessel, who was still gutted.
People from nearby countries were also among those paying tribute to the dead.
April 15th of this year marked the 110th anniversary of the ironically "unsinkable" Titanic's sinking after plowing into an iceberg during its maiden voyage. Recent footage revealed dramatic damage to the vessel's hull thanks to brine and metal-consuming bacteria.
Following the footage came word that the shipwreck may be lost forever.
