Calling Russia a "terrorist state", Zelensky thanked Americans for their continued support as he pleaded for peace.

Our two nations are allies in this battle.


And next year will be a turning point, I know it, the point when Ukrainian courage and American resolve must guarantee the future of our common freedom, the freedom of people who stand for their values.

Zelensky said supporting Ukraine is an investment in global security and democracy.


Then he asserted his defiance.

Ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender.

His speech was repeatedly punctuated by thunderous applause from members of Congress.


Then he presented lawmakers with a Ukrainian flag autographed by front-line troops in bitterly-contested Bakhmut.
