{O/C} U.S. President Joe Biden called Putin's assault an "unprovoked and unjustified attack on Ukraine" as he vows to hold Russian accountable.
Meantime, the European Union and other Western powers are following suit.

Finding Ukrainians easy prey comes with a price.
The world came closer to imposing punitive sanctions against Russia for its aggressive actions that have clearly violated international laws.
In a statement, Biden condemned the "premeditated war" while warning of grave loss of life and suffering. He said the responsibility lies squarely on Putin's shoulders.
Slated to deliver a speech to Americans after a meeting with the G7 leaders later today, Biden has already vowed to give Russia a taste of its own medicine.
Biden and his top aides had already set out sweeping economic sanctions should Russia escalate the war to a full-fledged one.
But its initial barrage of sanctions, coupled with Britain's, failed to as a deterrent to war.
In South Korea, President Moon Jae-in echoed Biden's sentiment, saying the continued warnings have all fallen on deaf ears. He added the innocent casualties caused in consequence of the war cannot be justified in any way, and that Ukraine's sovereignty and must be guaranteed.
Indonesia's foreign ministry also expressed concern. Like Western powers, it condemned any actions that violate Ukraine's territorial rights.
Russia's flagrant violation of international laws and the UN charters also aroused the ire of the European Commission President. Ursula von der Leyen not only decried Russia's barbaric invasion and the bellicose and cynical arguments which are a bunch of baloney, she also vowed to hold Putin accountable.
Plus, a raft of massive and targeted sanctions that are now awaiting European leaders' approval may be forthcoming.
In Britain, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said Britain and its allies resolutely set their faces against such an attack. He added Britain's prayers are with Ukraine.
At a U.N. emergency meeting meant to dissuade Russia from invading, members had to call it quits as Russia stopped holding off on an invasion when the members met.
Ukraine's ambassador to the U.N. sparred with Russia's ambassador.
{Soundbite} SERGIY KYSLYTSYA, Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.N.: We asked the members to convene an emergency meeting immediately, and consider all necessary draft decisions to stop the war. Too late. The Russian President declared the war on the record.
After all, the turmoil from the tormenting crisis has left Ukraine in ferment. The consequences such as aggravating tensions are ineluctable, as is a mind-boggling death toll.
