Ukrainian forces defiant in the face of Russian attacks

{O/C} {Turning overseas} Ukrainian forces are not calling it quits despite mounting pressure from Russia to give in.


Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden has banned all Russian oil imports.


This comes as Russia continues to thwart key evacuation efforts to let innocent civilians flee.

As the ceaseless Ukraine war stretches into its second week, Russia appears to be goading the regime of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into relinquishing its power.


Moscow is currently cranking up pressure on Ukraine by strategically placing materiel among residential buildings and on farms in the northern city of Chernihiv.


What's more, Russians clad in civilian clothes are trying to take over the city of Mykolaiv.


Across the embattled Ukraine, thousands have ineluctably perished, both civilians and soldiers.

But with Russia apparently nailing its colours to the mast, perspicacious Ukrainian troops are now resisting the Russian offensive with sporadic strikes.


Russian shelling continues as it accuses Western powers of treading on its toes, in addition to spreading misinformation about the war, which Moscow calls "a special military operation." Moscow also claims to have stifled a large-scale attack on separatist-held regions of eastern Ukraine.


Back-to-back air raid alerts could be heard as residents were urged to hole up in underground bunkers.


As the blame game continues to becloud facts, some 400 Ukrainian refugees boarded a train to safety in Poland.


{Soundbite} DARIA GORODAVKA, Kiev Resident: You know that fights were very rude, very tough there. So they again ruined my life, this 8-year life here.


Key Ukrainian administration officials accused Russia of thwarting gargantuan evacuation efforts via bombing small communities, in addition to encircling key Ukrainian cities like Mariupol.


More than 2 million people have extricated themselves from the predicament.


Residents still staying put are condemned to living in the dark as both electricity and water supplies are disrupted.


On the diplomatic front, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, was due to fly to Turkey later today and meet with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Turkey in a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of a summit hosted by Turkey.
