{O/C} We need painstaking efforts to resurrect the economy.
That from new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as he faced a barrage of questions from opposition lawmakers in Parliament today.
{Take SOT}
Rishi Sunak made his first appearance in Parliament as Prime Minister today.

RISHI SUNAK, British Prime Minister:
We will have to take difficult decisions to restore economic stability and confidence.
{VO}
He nabbed the country's top job unopposed after his predecessor, Liz Truss, quit over the horrendous cost-of-living crisis.
Sunak reversed more of Truss' flagship policies, reinstating a moratorium on fracking for shale gas that Truss had abandoned.
What's more, large-scale deregulation of the economy, which Truss said would spur economic growth, is also under intense scrutiny.
{Soundbite}
{Sunak}
I've always acted in a way to protect the most vulnerable.
{VO}

{Soundbite}
KEIR STARMER, Opposition Labour Party Leader:
Was his Home Secretary right to resign last week for breach of security?
{Soundbite}
{Sunak}
The Home Secretary made an error of judgment, but she recognised that, she raised the matter and she accepted her mistake.
{VO}
And this jab, aimed mercilessly at Sunak.
{Soundbite}
{Starmer}
We can all see what's happened here: he's so weak, he's done a grubby deal trading national security because he was scared to lose another leadership election.
