Russia close to invading Ukraine; Biden agrees to meet with Putin

{O/C} U.S. President Joe Biden has agreed to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin on the condition that Russia does not invade Ukraine.

This latest tentative deal came as French President Emmanuel Macron made a last-ditch effort to thrash out the crisis.

The meeting, though, is expected to take place after the two countries' foreign ministers meet later this week.

Now, here's more on why the gripe about an imminent Russian invasion lingers.

It was yet another possible kiss of death for any diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine since estimates reveal at least 30,000 Russian forces were sent to Belarus. They are part of the 150,000 troops near Ukraine's borders, ample to induce an invasion.

With Russian troops often deployed on short notice, Moscow ruffled Washington's feathers as Western leaders scramble to head off an all-out war that could potentially deal a heavy blow to Western countries' economies.

Among those making a last-ditch effort at the drop of a hat was French President, Emmanuel Macron, who had Biden tentatively agree to meet with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, provided that he holds off an assault.

Macron and Putin spoke by phone earlier yesterday and agreed to come up with a solution.

As artillery shells bore down on Ukraine came sensitive intelligence findings bearing out on Russia's intent to invade Ukraine's sovereignty. Plus, Russian front-line commanders have reportedly been ordering final preparations for an incursion.

This, as the U.S. claims Russia has drawn up a list of Ukrainians whom it will put to the sword or detain right after its allegedly planned invasion.

In Munich, the U.S. Vice President acknowledged that Putin is remaining defiant despite running the gauntlet of Western countries. She said America will not go it alone, given the invincible alliance between the U.S. and its steadfast allies.

{Soundbite} KAMALA HARRIS, U.S. Vice President: It was important in that, as you all know, this is a moment that is very dynamic. This Alliance is strong.

In Ukraine, the deaths and injuries in consequence of Russia's continued shelling saw Ukrainians in Kiev finding solace in praying at a gold-domed cathedral for peace.

Critics conjecture Western leaders will continue to frenetically look for a solution while crossing swords with Russia until the window of diplomacy completely shuts.
