If the meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand on September 15th to the 16th is to happen, it will be Xi's first foreign trip in two and a half years.
Russian media are also reporting on Xi's plans to visit Kazakhstan prior to that summit.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson declined to comment on the meeting.
For the record, the two leaders just met in Beijing back in February, weeks before the Russian offensive on Ukraine began.
China has sought to remain neutral despite tacit support for Russia's war, which many Western leaders have denounced.
