On the battlefield, 10 rocket attacks hit the Kupiansk district in Kharkiv, and Moscow claimed Russian troops had killed about 60 Ukrainian servicemen yesterday.
Nearly twenty towns in Zaporizhzhia were also bombarded over Christmas.
Over at the Vatican, Pope Francis expressed solidarity with Ukrainians, and called for an end to the "senseless" war in his Christmas Day address.
