Russian President Vladimir Putin roared with a vengeance.
He branded the bombing that wrecked the Kerch Bridge last Saturday a "terrorist act" spearheaded by Ukrainian special services.
This added fuel to Russia's fire given its faltering offensive in much of Ukraine.
Comprised of a highway and railway, the bridge had also served as the critical route for Russia to deliver military supplies to its troops in Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Russian state TV has continued to downplay the incident.
As Ukrainians triumphed, air siren blared in the capital city of Kyiv.

Firefighters scrambled to douse the blazes, with buildings standing charred and gutted.
Sheer horror gripped the capital city as paramedics tended to the injured.
Russia also pounded other regions like Dnipro city and Kharkiv.
This was the first time Kyiv was terrorised in months, hours following Putin's condemnation of the bridge attack.
At least 8 people perished and 24 were wounded in just one of the Kyiv explosions.
In a video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the onslaught a retaliation, but called on his grief-stricken country to unite.
The ferocious jolt that struck the Kerch Bridge on Saturday is still under investigation.
This as Russia's ruthless war tactics continue to reverberate across the country.
