Over 400 corpses found in Izyum mass graves

To Ukraine, where workers exhumed over 400 corpses from a mass burial site in recently liberated Izyum.


It's now a war-ravaged country on the precipice of collapse.

Amid the stench of corpses was where workers hauled over 400 exhumed bodies of mostly civilians, including children and soldiers, one by one.



Some victims had their hands tied behind their backs.


The sea of inexcusable atrocities had the U.N. promising an investigation.


Citing severed arms and legs as evidence of torture, Ukraine's president called for a forceful response.

VOLODYMYR ZELENSKYY, Voice of Interpreter, Ukrainian President:

Russia is leaving death behind it everywhere, and must be held responsible.


The world must bring Russia to real responsibility for the war.

The scale of Izyum's some 440 graves surpasses those of Bucha and Mariupol.


On Russia's front, President Putin has vowed a comeback after Russian troops retreated, but wants the war to end as early as possible.


Relentless shelling consumed a tattered country, with shelters ransacked and homes decimated.


The U.S. ambassador to the U.N. insists, Russia is waging its reign of terror instead of returning to the negotiating table.

LINDA THOMAS-GREENFIELD, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:

What they're interested in is continuing to raise this unprovoked war on Ukraine.


We will be having meetings with the Ukrainians. There're no plans at this time to have meetings with the Russians.

That struck a deafening chord with Washington, which announced another 600 million U.S. dollars of military aid to Ukraine.

BRIG. GEN. PAT RYDER, Pentagon Press Secretary:

We're tracking that two NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) are expected to be delivered within the next two months or so.


These defensive systems will further contribute to protecting Ukrainians from enemy air threats, to include aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles.
