Moderna seeks 4th dose authorisation from FDA

{O/C} Moderna has requested that the Food and Drug Administration in the United States authorise a fourth COVID dose for all adults.

The request, Moderna says, is to provide versatility for the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention as well as medical providers to determine when a second booster dose should be administered to all adults, with those chronically ill or with comorbidites given the priority.

The request is broader than its rival Pfizer, which on Tuesday asked the regulator to approve a booster shot for all seniors.

U.S. officials have been contemplating giving out additional booster doses to shore up the vaccines' shield against serious diseases and death as a result of COVID.

U.S. health officials currently recommend a primary series of two doses of the Moderna vaccine and a booster months later.
