In the United States, COVID-19 emergencies will reportedly come to an end on May 11th.
President Joe Biden informed Congress of the decision on Monday to end the national emergency and public health emergency declarations.
The move means the virus would only be treated as an endemic threat to public health.
It would also steer the development of vaccines and treatments away from direct management of the federal government.
Lawmakers have also ended elements of the emergencies that once kept millions of Americans insured during the pandemic.
House Republicans had demanded an immediate end to the emergencies put in place by former President Donald Trump in January and March of 2020.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation insists COVID remains a global health emergency, but said the pandemic may be nearing an "inflection point" where higher levels of immunity can reduce virus-related deaths.
