Updated: Sep 11, 2022

{O/C} {Good evening}

It was an ambivalent new day in Britain as Prince Charles was officially proclaimed the King, delivered his first address to his nation while anguish creeps in.

This after a brief meet-and-greet with his fellow Britons outside Buckingham Palace.

{Soundbite}

KING CHARLES III, British Monarch:

Whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life.

Delivering his impassioned address with aching sorrow, King Charles III vowed to make good on his lifelong service, emulating his mother's promise.

{Soundbite}

Queen Elizabeth's was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.

In a forgivable paradox, thousands of royal enthusiasts flocked to Buckingham Palace to greet Charles III, who's now their King.

And one gave the King a heartfelt kiss.

And to put his money where his mouth is, the King and Queen Consort Camilla walked past countless wreathes outside the Palace in vivid remembrance of their beloved Queen.

Then the royal couple officially entered the Palace as Britain embraces a new era with a new monarch who's pledged to perpetuate the Queen's spirits.

Meantime, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have been appointed Prince and Princess of Wales -- a title not held ever since Princess Diana's tragic death.

The new King assured folks that the new Duke of Cornwall will be just fine.

With Catherine (Kate) beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations.

Then, a sentiment of unstinting love and support for Prince Harry and Meghan.

I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.

And as bells tolled and 96 cannon shots were fired, that 16-minute salute signified each year of the Queen's magnificent life.

In the run-up to the Queen's funeral expected on September 19th at Westminster Abbey, she will be brought back to Buckingham Palace and lie in state.

In the end, King Charles expressed his sincerest gratitude to his mother.

{Soundbite}

And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.
