Former U.S. President Donald Trump is triumphant after a federal judge approved his request for an independent party, or special master, to pore over the documents seized by the FBI from his Florida residence.
The move has temporarily suspended the Justice Department's use of the records for any of its investigations.

The order came despite stiff objections from the Justice Department, which insisted a special master was not necessary given its already completed review of the potentially privileged documents.
The order in effect stretches the DOJ probe, but whether or not the records should be returned to Trump in the end is a decision that remains hanging in the balance.
Still, a separate examination of the national security risk posed by the apparent mishandling of classified documents can and will continue under the judge's order.
