Michael Martin, often referred to as Ireland's taoiseach, was attending the Ireland Funds 30th National Gala at the National Building Museum in D.C. when he was told he had tested positive for the virus.

This, in the run-up to to St. Patrick's Day celebrations later today with U.S. leaders.

Biden, who spoke briefly at that event, was not deemed a close contact. This close call came just a day after second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, contracted the virus.

It remains unclear how Martin's diagnosis will affect the celebratory events slated to take place tomorrow at the White House.
