Then it was time to celebrate a victory for his administration as the President signed the law at a ceremony at the White House.

This marks the end of a months-long bipartisan effort to safeguard gay and interracial marriages in every state amid the Roe v. Wade fallout.

This, over worries the Court may also strike down Obergefell v. Hodges -- a decision dating back to 2015 that legalises same-sex marriages nationwide.

The ceremony was attended by both Republicans and Democrats, which shows growing acceptance of contentious same-sex unions.

Among the attendees -- the owner of Club Q in Colorado where a deadly shooting took place last month, and two survivors of the attack.

Right before performing at the ceremony, one singer who has long championed same-sex unions lauded this bill.

CYNDI LAUPER, American Singer:

We can rest easy tonight because our families are validated, and because now we are allowed to love who we love.

And Democrats echoed that sentiment.

CHUCK SCHUMER, Senate Majority Leader:

By enacting this law, we are sending a message to LGBTQ Americans everywhere: you too deserve dignity, you too deserve equality.

That's about as an American ideal as they come.

{Soundbite}

NANCY PELOSI, Speaker of the House of Representatives:

And it defends dignity, because everyone deserves to bask in the magical blessing of building a union with the person you love.
