Biden seeks 33 billion dollars for Ukraine

{O/C} On the diplomatic front, U.S. President Joe Biden has requested 33 billion U.S. dollars in all to shore up Ukraine's defence against Russia.

This, as part of a long-term commitment given the invasion has shown no signs of abating.

The aid package includes 20 billion dollars set aside for defence spending for both Ukraine and U.S. allies in that region.

This, in addition to 8.5 billion dollars to maintain government services and salaries as well as 3 billion dollars devoted to global food and humanitarian assistance.

Slated to last five months, the package is more than twice the size of the initial 13.6-billion-dollar aid package that Congress approved early last month and is now well-nigh drained.

This munificent sum of money had the Ukrainian President expressing his gratitude to the United States' unstinting support, citing the far-reaching repercussions of the war.
