Much like during his joint address to Congress last year, Trump's speech is designed to help unite a still deeply divided nation.
It may be a tough sell, but the president hopes to inspire Democrats to help him rebuild the country by passing an infrastructure package valued at 1.7 trillion U.S. dollars.

BARBARA PERRY, Director of Presidential Studies, University of Virginia:
That's the kind of thing that could still get some bipartisan support.

{VO}
He'll also call for the kind of immigration reform that offers illegal immigrants already living in America a path to citizenship.
At the same time, he'll insist on funding for a border wall to prevent immigrants from streaming in from Mexico.

I've got to believe we will have at least one Rocket Man, if not two mentions.
I would expect that Trump is going to tout his Middle East policy which is getting some acclaim.
{VO}
His first State of the Union address comes as Trump is battling poor ratings and trying to move past a Russia meddling probe that still haunts his administration.
