The United Nations Development Programme's estimates have 51.6 more people slipping into poverty -- hinging on 1.9 US dollars a day in the first three months of the war. Then an additional 20 million later.
42 percent of families' household incomes are devoted to food, the prices of which are becoming hefty given stiff sanctions meted out to Russia.
The penetrating pain of poverty in consequence of inflation is burgeoning at breakneck pace, far outweighing that of the pandemic.
