The Southwest U.S. continued to be affected by the heat wave. And as weather forecasters in the United States kept warnings in effect for excessive heat in Arizona, Nevada and desert areas, Arizona fire officials blamed the heat waves for the spread of a wildfire that is now threatening Arizona towns.

Record high temperatures were set in Phoenix, Las Vegas and cities close by.
Phoenix recorded a high of 115 degrees yesterday, and the record could possibly be extended to six days.
Evacuations were ordered Friday while aircraft and about 100 firefighters dropped fire retardants as a wildfire started late Wednesday and grew by Saturday to nearly 27 square miles near Strawberry and Pine mountain towns.
Fire officials said scorching hot temperatures will only exacerbate the fire conditions.
Excessive heat warnings remained in effect until late Sunday in the region, also including nearby California and Utah desert areas.
