{O/C} {Welcome back} There is word tonight that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration is slated to declare Myanmar's years-long repression of the Rohingya Muslim population a "genocide".
{RVO}
The declaration, is expected to be made by the U.S. Secretary of State at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum later today.
The declaration does not signify new sanctions against Myanmar's military regime, which has been pummelled by multiple barrages of U.S. sanctions since their campaign against the Rohingya ethnic minority started in 2017.
This declaration is considered by lawmakers in the United States long overdue.
Yet, this could be the prelude to additional international pressure on the military government, which is already battered by accusations of genocide at the International Court of justice in The Hague.
