US Supreme Court overturns Roe V. Wade

{O/C} To the United States, where the Supreme Court repealed Roe v. Wade that made women's right to abortion an intrinsic part of America five decades ago.

The ruling is bound to have abortion outlawed in about half of America's 50 states.

While anti-abortion Republicans are emboldened, the likes of President Joe Biden have reminded Trump's allies that two can play at that game.

America's skies may be brilliantly blue for the euphoric anti-abortion crowds.

But for those who bellowed upon the overturning, the firmament over the Supreme Court was completely leaden.

The 5-4 ruling was patently the culmination of decades of efforts by abortion opponents, fortified by the three Supreme Court justices appointed by former President Trump.

Justice Samuel Alito, who endorsed annulling Roe v. Wade, called the landmark 1973 legalisation of abortion deplorable.

Some states have already prohibited abortions right after Friday's decision, which is expected to affect half of America's 50 states.

House Republicans were over the moon.

KEVIN McCARTHY, (R) House Minority Leader:

The right to life has been vindicated. The voiceless will finally have a voice.

Equally jubilant was Trump, who told Fox News the ruling will work out for everyone.

But that's a just cause for pro-abortion Americans to fight fire with fire.

JOE BIDEN, U.S. President:

Now, with Roe gone, let's be very clear: The health and life of women in this nation are now at risk. The Court literally taking America back 150 years.

This is a sad day for the country, in my view, but it doesn't mean the fight is over. This fall, Roe is on the ballot. Personal freedoms are on the ballot. The right to privacy, liberty, equality, they're all on the ballot. Until then, I will do all in my power to protect a woman's right in states where they will face the consequences of today's decision.

Civil rights activists agree.

HEATHER BOOTH, Civil Righst Activist, Founder of Jane's Collective:

(Pregnant women) either will find ways to injure themselves, go underground and find illegal providers, or will have forced and unwanted pregnancies. We need to build our political power and drive this into the elections and ensure that those people who are there to represent us represent the popular will.
