US Supreme Court halts Biden's vaccine-or-test rule

{O/C}

In the United States, U.S. President Joe Biden is utterly disappointed at the Supreme Court's decision to block the administration's vaccine-or-test rule.

The U.S. Supreme Court is standing in the way of President Joe Biden's vaccine-or-test rule.

The Biden administration came to grief as the conservative majority was in favour of blocking the vaccine-or-test rule, with only three liberal judges voting against it.

The court reached the conclusion that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration overstepped its authority by seeking to impose the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's vaccine-or-test edict on U.S. businesses with at least 100 employees.

More than 80 million people would have been affected had the court not halted the rule. Be that as it may, some 6,500 lives and 250,000 hospitalisations would have been prevented at the same time.

In dissent, the court's three liberal justices put forward the argument that it was the court that was doing too much.

President Joe Biden called the decision disappointing, saying the Supreme Court has chosen to block common-sense life-saving requirements for employees at large businesses that have been suffering the brunt of this public health crisis against its better judgment.

Notwithstanding this decision, the court does allow the Biden administration to proceed with a vaccine mandate for most healthcare workers in the United States in another 5-4 vote, which stands to reason why Biden called on businesses to institute their own vaccination requirements.

All this, as the United States is fighting tooth and nail to get out of this predicament, in which it has been enmeshed since 2020.

While reports suggest Omicron cases in some Eastern states are levelling off, the reality is, cases are still skyrocketing in the main.

In light of this, Biden says the military will be deployed to hospitals in hard-hit areas on short notice to help combat the virus.

And since Americans envision being able to toss masks out, higher quality masks will be given to Americans for free to stamp out the outbreak in the United States.

JOE BIDEN, United States President: We are making high-quality masks available to the American people for free. I know we all wish that we could finally be done with wearing masks. I get it. But there is a really important tool to stop the spread, especially the highly transmittable Omicron variant. So please, please wear the mask.

A sword of Damocles continues to hang over the nation as the country is faced with more challenges in this unprecedented public health disaster.
