US COVID cases nearly triple in 2 weeks

Shocking data reveals the United States is not on the mend just yet, as COVID-19 cases nearly tripled over two weeks. This is expected to stretch doctors and nurses to their limit once again. Meantime, on his multi-state trip, U.S. President Joe Biden again urged people to get inoculated as soon as possible.

Having been told that COVID infections in the United States have tripled, are you having a strange feeling of deja vu?

That's completely fine, because yes, cases are skyrocketing again.

Data reveals that across the United States, the one-week average for daily new cases rose over the past two weeks to more than 37,000 on Tuesday, up from less than 13,700 on July 6.

It is now considered that sluggish vaccination rates and the highly contagious Delta variant are the culprits of the spike in infections. As such, just 56.2 percent of Americans have gotten at least one COVID shot, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In Louisiana, health officials reported 5,388 new cases yesterday - the third-highest daily count since the onset of the pandemic. COVID-related hospitalisations rose to 844 statewide, at least 600 more since Mid-June.

The increase in COVID infections in Utah is equally shocking. The state has an average of around 622 new cases every day, about triple the infection rate at its lowest point in early June.

While the virus continues to wreak havoc in the United States, health data reveals the surge is literally connected to unvaccinated people. Therefore, this crisis is now considered "the pandemic of the unvaccinated."

During his multi-state trip today, U.S. President Joe Biden once again bashed the sluggish vaccination rates and the Delta Variant. Knowing the virus would blow his nation out of the water again, should unvaccinated people remain unconvinced, Biden took no chances by emphasising the importance of getting a life-saving vaccine, saying getting vaccinated is "gigantically important."

"If you're vaccinated, you're not going to be hospitalized, you're not going to be in the IC unit, and you're not going to die. So it's gigantically important that ... we all act like Americans who care about our fellow Americans." Pleaded Biden.

Biden earlier expressed his optimism that lowering the age limit in the vaccination drive to 12 will empower teenagers and adolescents to get inoculated, thereby helping the United States complete the herculean and arduous task of stamping out COVID. But as it turns out, many eligible Americans are still reluctant to get vaccinated.

A noteworthy point now is that COVID-related hospitalisations and deaths in the nation are nearly all among the unvaccinated, especially eligible teenagers.

And a piece of sad news today as a 5-year-old boy, Wyatt Gibson, succumbed to the virus in Georgia. He was considered a boy who "brought joy to everyone".

Meantime, a sea of misinformation online is currently stretching doctors and nurses to their limit. Anti-vaxxers are changing their names on social media platforms like Facebook to euphemisms like "Dance Party" or "Dinner Party", in an attempt to stave off being banned by Facebook. Thus, this makes them free as a bird on the Internet. What's more, making a pretence of being

members of dance groups, anti-vaxxers are undoubtedly making fighting misinformation even harder.

While many remain none the wiser about anti-vaxxers' rationale behind their work, health officials are keeping a close eye on the developing COVID situation in the nation.
