In Portland, Oregon, the temperature reached 112 degrees on Sunday, breaking the all-time temperature record of 108 F, which was set just a day earlier.
In Seattle, another temperate city on the west coast, the temperature was at 104 degrees on Sunday. According to the NWS, it was an all-time record for Seattle, better known for its sufficient amount of rain than heat and was the first time the area recorded two consecutive triple-digit day on record.
Records were being broken across the region, with Idaho also becoming affected by the heat wave. And the scorching hot temperatures are expected to be recorded in the next couple of days.
Meantime, in Canada, the heat wave also made the region scorching hot, with some cities in British Columbia reaching 115 degrees on Sunday afternoon.
People in Seattle and other temperate cities in North America tried to cool off in one way or another. The temperature in Seattle was so high Seattle’s light rail trains could only operate at reduced speeds as a result of excessive heat on the tracks, causing delays that could possibly continue into the work week.
The scorching hot weather was caused by an extended “heat dome” parked over the Pacific Northwest, according to the University of Washington.
The high temperatures were forecasted to affect more areas tomorrow.
