{O/C} The President of Turkmenistan is contemplating putting out one of the country's most notable blazing natural gas crater, widely referred to as the "Gates of Hell".
{RVO}
The crater has burned for decades and is a popular sight for the meagre number of tourists who visit Turkmenistan, a country which is difficult to enter.
The spread of natural gas is one of the reasons why the President has ordered his government to map out plans to put it out as it could potentially affect the health of nearby residents.
Another noteworthy reason is that the crater is causing ecological damage.
The crater was formed following a 1971 gas-drilling collapse. The "Gates of Hell" is about 60 metres wide and 20 metres deep.
