A tsunami alert was lifted in Indonesia this afternoon after it was hoisted earlier on the heels of a magnitude 7.3 undersea earthquake off Flores Island.

A bit of panic ensued in the region as Indonesia is susceptible to fatal earthquakes.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake hit at a depth of around 18.5 kilometers under the sea, and was located 112 kilometers north of the town of Maumere.
Erring on the side of caution, the Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency hoisted the tsunami alert since there were reports residents in that area felt the earthquake strongly. And TV footage purports to show people running away from buildings that shook from the impact.
No damage has been reported thus far.
A vast archipelago boasting around 270 million residents, Indonesia is a place where earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis are prevalent by reason of its location on the "Ring of Fire" and divergent boundaries there.
The last major earthquake was back in January, which left at least 105 people dead and 6,500 injured in West Sulawesi province.
