Making headline news in Hong Kong was Doo Hoi-kem, whose performance enraptured her ardent supporters here at home.
The team's best player, Doo, alongside Lee Ho-ching, defeated Germany in the first game, 11-9. But the situation turned out to be nail-biting and somehow disappointing as the German duo of Shan Xiaona and Petrissa Solja took the next 3 games, 11-3, 11-7 and 15-13.
Leveraging her confidence, Hong Kong's Minnie Soo assuredly levelled things up in the next singles match, defeating her German opponent, Han Ying, 3-1.
And it was Doo Hoi-kem's showtime in the next singles matches, as she defeated her German opponent Solja, 11-5, 11-6 and 11-9 in just 23 minutes.
And wrapping up the team's another day in the two-week Olympic Games, Soo again enthralled the crowds following closely with the team's competitions in Hong Kong by winning her singles match against German Shan Xiaona, 12-10, 13-11 and 11-7.
The city's table tennis team members were seen embracing each other as they knew they had succeeded in bringing glory to Hong Kong.
It goes without saying, the team's performance and achievement didn't go sour. The Table Tennis team ended up getting a bronze medal, bringing the total number of medals the city's has gotten thus far to 4.
Having been on the edge of her seat the entire morning, Chief Executive Carrie Lam was quick to sent her heartfelt congratulations to the city's table tennis athletes, Lee Ho-ching, Doo Hoi-kem, Soo Wai-yam and Zhu Chengzhu. She mentioned in a statement this afternoon that she "was moved by the great perseverance and tenacity displayed by the Hong Kong table tennis team in the competition." She added that "their full engagement in the team competition deserves our great respect."
With 4 medals in total thus far, this year's Olympic Games has turned out to be the city's most successful ever.
