In Denver, a Federal jury convicts Timothy McVeigh of murder and conspiracy in the Oklahoma City bombing. The mother of one of the 168 victims: “The emotions have been building up for such a long time that, just to hear that word – guilty.” McVeigh is executed four years later.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is crowned in London’s Westminster Abbey. The coronation takes place more than a year after the death of her father, King George VI.
