While some countries in the world have begun to recover from the economic recession brought by the pandemic, India has yet to escape from COVID’s trap. More than 400,000 cases were confirmed again, showing signs that the nation will need to endure a difficult period in the fight against COVID. As countries around the world have witnessed how horrible the situation in India is, they are fighting tooth and nail to make sure they won’t have to face an India-style disaster.
414,188 COVID cases were reported in the past day in the COVID-battered country of India. The Health Ministry also reported 3,915 additional deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 234,083. True figures are still believed to be much higher.
A noteworthy point now is that the official daily death count has stayed over 3,000 for the past 10 days, which, many believe, suggests the crisis will still batter the country’s fragile healthcare system for a long period of time.
The disaster in India has become so dreadful and horrible as such, countries around the world are doing everything they can to avert a carbon copy of the India-style COVID crisis.
Indians and many people around the globe are now second guessing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision not to impose a nationwide lockdown to curb the outbreak due to concerns that yet another economic crisis would be triggered. Many also attributed the new spike to Modi’s administration’s ignoring of warnings and calls for a nationwide lockdown.
But, major drama unfolded in India as Indians and medical experts have decided they will never stop short of asking the Indian government to impose a complete shutdown to ease the surge of infections, because to them, this is critically needed.
As India’s health ministry is beefing up facilities in every state in the nation, more physicians and medical teams were sent to different hospitals across the country to follow up with those isolated at home. And authorities are literally stepping up efforts to fight the dreadful disease as two vaccination centres have been set up in the country, and more are planned. More oxygen generators and ventilators and ICU gear are arriving in India, as wealthier countries around the world are doing their best to help Indians, in an effort to stop the Indian variant of the COVID-19 disease from spreading across the globe.
