Many of the 105 activists arrested across Sudan were previously involved in a protest movement against the October 25 military coup.

The two prominent officials detained, Khalid Omer Yousif and Wagdi Salih, had been members of a task force that seized property and fired bureaucrats linked to the regime of deposed leader, Omar al-Bashir.

Some 2,000 people have been released on bail ever since the coup.

The U.S. charge d'affaires to Sudan tweeted that the arbitrary arrests and detention of political figures, civil society activists and journalists are deplorable, and that they undermine efforts to resolve Sudan's political crisis and spell a dismal status quo.

Ever since the coup, security forces have been cracking down on demonstrators against the military regime. Over 2,000 people were killed in nationwide protests condemning the military coup.
