Three people were wounded early Sunday on a street endowed with spring breakers like college students in the city's South Beach neighbourhood.
Then early Monday, two women were found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds just about a block away from the Sunday morning shooting site.
At the request of residents, city officials have been fighting tooth and nail to clamp down on unruly behaviour. Yet, efforts to prevent violent incidents from cropping up have had people complaining about racism, classism and business practices.
Miami Beach mayor Dan Gelber says a curfew will also be imposed early Thursday after midnight and throughout the weekend.
The city commission will hold an emergency meeting later today to discuss the declaration, with word the curfew may be extended through the next weekend.
This is the second year in a row that officials there have declared a state of emergency in this famed mecca for parties.
