A recent study done by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests unsafe bedding is linked to sudden unexpected infant death.
The CDC recommends keeping soft bedding like blankets, pillows, bumper pads and soft toys away from a baby’s sleeping area to prevent sudden unexpected infant deaths, or SUIDs.
Researchers attributed the 31 percent of the cases to suffocation or “possible suffocation”, while 41 percent is said to be linked to unsafe sleep factors.
While many parents believe it is good to add blankets and pillows to their baby’s crib to keep their baby warm and comfortable while sleeping, the CDC said sheets, comforters and blankets can possibly increase the risk of suffocation or overheat the baby.
