Senate Republicans are going to block a commission on the January 6 insurrection via filibustering, shattering hopes for a bi-partisan probe into the deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol.
The vote on Thursday would be the first successfully use of a filibuster this year to halt Senate legislative action, as most Republicans are against the bill, which would establish a commission to investigate the attack aimed at making the result of the 2020 U.S. Presidential election null and void.
While Democrats are in favour of the bill, the Senate is evenly split, so the tally is likely to fall short of the 60-vote threshold to launch debate.
