Robots hit the road in Michigan due to growing demand for food delivery

{O/C}

And we take you to the U.S. state of Michigan, where robot food delivery has become a reality.

Scenes like this is no longer in a science fiction. Hundreds of little robots, knee-high and able to hold around four large pizzas, are already traversing college campuses and even some city sidewalks in not only Michigan, but also in Britain.

Since demand for contactless food delivery has increased, thanks to the pandemic, the companies building the robots say their deployment has been accelerated.

Starship Technologies, which recently completed its 2 millionth contactless food delivery using a robot, said more than a 1,000 robots are deployed every day in America, up from just 250 in 2019. It said hundreds more will be deployed before long.

However, as the maxim goes, there are two sides to every coin. Amid the hustle and bustle of cities like the Big Apple, Beijing and San Francisco, they are inflexible, and hence they are not welcomed in cities with crowded sidewalks.

But after all, tech companies are hoping with pandemic-induced labour shortages, robots will keep deliverymen's seat warm, as more robots are set to be deployed across the U.S. and the U.K.
