{O/C} It's a race against time to home in on the cause of one rare monkeypox case in an American man in Massachusetts, who earlier travelled to Canada.
{RVO}
The man arrived in Canada at the end of April to meet friends and returned in early May using private transportation.
Monkeypox is typically found in Africa, though rare cases in the United States and elsewhere are usually connected to travel.
A handful of confirmed or suspected infections have been discovered earlier this month, scattered across Britain, Portugal and Spain.
U.S. health officials are contacting both U.K. and Canadian officials as part of the probe.
There were two monkeypox cases in the U.S. last year, one in Texas and another, Maryland.
