Protests that reached fever-pitch last week simmed down as demonstrators occupying the president's official residence beat a retreat following the president's abrupt resignation.
But with the opposition in parliament paralysed, it is clear Sri Lanka's financial and political woes will linger on for some time.
The island nation remains languishing in political turmoil as it actively seeks assistance from the International Monetary Fund.
But even obtaining a bailout has posed various encumbrances to this bled-dry country.
