Pyongyang marked the 69th anniversary of the Korean War truce.

The capital was awash with colours as performers danced in an unbridled fashion, with senior ruling Workers' Party officials and aged war veterans in attendance.

This, in leader Kim Jong-un's pitch to strike fear into North Korea's main nemeses -- Seoul and Washington.

In a speech to the 1950-53 Korean War veterans, Kim Jong-un unleashed a bellicose rhetoric on both countries, saying the North would mobilise its nuclear arsenal swiftly and precisely should needs arise.

He accused the U.S. of slandering the North to defend its hostile policies, citing U.S. "double standards" in an apparent nod to the North's provocative missile tests.

Without fear of arousing Seoul's ire, he also lashed out at South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol as being a confrontation fanatic who's gone further than his predecessors.
