Vladimir Putin today compared the two U.S. Presidents – Donald Trump and Joe Biden – in an exclusive interview with NBC News. He was more complimentary about Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, whom Putin called a “colourful individual”. During that interview, he also pushed back Biden’s characterisation of him as a killer, and said he can work with Biden.

Putin’s comparison of the two U.S. Presidents came at a time when relations between Russia and the United States are at a historic low.
But at a time when many are still criticising and ostracising Trump because he allegedly “utilised” his speech on January 6 this year to ask his supporters to launch an assault on the U.S. Capitol, in an attempt to overturn the outcome of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, and that he is said to have no saving grace, Putin was more complimentary about the former President. He portrayed Trump as an extraordinary and talented individual, and said he would not have been elected to become a U.S. President, had he not been so different from other candidates.
Vladimir Putin (Translator):
Well, even now, I believe that former U.S. President Mr. Trump is an extraordinary individual, talented individual, otherwise he would not have become U.S. president. He is a colourful individual. You may like him or not. And, but he didn't come from the U.S. establishment. He had not been part of big-time politics before, and some like it, some don’t like it but that is a fact.
President Biden, of course, is radically different from Trump, because President Biden is a career man. He has spent virtually his entire adulthood in politics.
Voiceover:
That’s why many believe it stands to reason why Putin said he didn’t expect major breakthroughs from his meeting with President Biden.
Putin also all but brushed off U.S. accusations of the Russian government’s crackdown on anti-Kremlin organizations, and the country’s interference in U.S. elections.
There is word all the U.S.’ accusations are aimed at hitting Putin where it hurts and knocking the wind out of him, in an attempt to warn him that the United States is currently tough as nails.
Trump has been criticised for cosying up to Putin. On the heels of their sole summit in July 2018 in Helsinki, Trump sent shockwaves across the United States when he said he was dead set against siding with U.S. intelligence agencies over Putin’s denials of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election. This, as critics said his move was because of his alleged admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, Biden has said on a number of occasions that he looked Putin in the eye and said he doesn’t have a soul during a Kremlin visit in 2011 when he was Vice President.
Suffice it to say, the possibility of any breakthroughs in the bilateral meeting between Putin and Biden literally hinges on the meeting, as the world looks on and see if Biden is interested in rebuilding the U.S.’ relationship with Russia.
