Besides, Xi also pledged China is willing to support Afghanistan, spotlighting Beijing's leading role in Afghanistan following the haphazard withdrawal of U.S. troops last August.
In the meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran and a few other central Asian countries in Tunxi, Xi mentioned that peace, stability, development and prosperity are crucial to serving the common interests of regional countries as well as the international community.
He added China has invariably respected Afghanistan's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and will support Afghanistan steadfastly.
China espouses and hews to what it calls a strict policy of "non-intervention" in other countries' internal affairs. Yet, it is frequently accused of meddling to further its domestic and international interests.
Although it has yet to officially recognise the Taliban regime, China was quick to buttress its ties with the radical Islamic group.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi also made a surprise stop in Kabul last week to meet with Taliban leaders despite the Taliban being in the firing line for reneging on a promise to open schools to girls beyond the sixth grade.
