Philippine government demanded Rappler be shut down ahead of inauguration

Updated: Jul 1, 2022

{O/C} The demise of Philippine news agency, Rappler, founded in 2012 by Filipino journalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Maria Ressa, may be creeping in.

This, after the Philippines' Securities and Exchange Commission affirmed its earlier decision to nullify the certificates of Rappler.

Rappler has gained infamy for its insights into President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody crackdown on illegal drug syndicates.

The order is dated June 28, but Ressa remains unbowed and refuses to shut it down, saying she will appeal this decision.

Just last year, the Nobel Peace Prize was bestowed upon Ressa, making her the first Philippine working journalist to be handed the honour.
