Despite Republicans threatening to boycott the January 6 probe, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is unfazed, declaring that a congressional committee devoted to investigating the January 6 Capitol insurretion will take on its "deadly serious" work, irrespective of Republicans' stance.

The Republicans' House leader, Kevin McCarthy, earlier called the committee a "sham process" and suggested that Republican lawmakers who partake in the investigation could bear consequences.
Tensions continue to escalate between the two parties as McCarthy described Pelosi's rejection of two of the Republicans he had attempt to appoint was an "egregious abuse of power."
Pelosi today defended her decision, saying she won't relent, and that Democrats will fill the empty seats themselves, so as to hit the ground running.
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives:
With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with concern that the American people want to know the truth, and in light of statements and actions taken by them (The Republican nominees), I could not appoint them.
These people are going to act up, cause a problem. And people said to me, "Put them on and then when they act up, you can take them off." I said, "Why should we waste time on something as predictable?"
