Pacific Northwest faces shutdowns due to a recent spike in the number of COVID cases

Over to the United States, where Oregon and Washington’s Governors are preparing for shutdowns again.

Now that hospitalisations and infections have risen to alarming levels, Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown is categorizing 15 counties that encompass the state’s biggest cities into the state’s extreme risk category starting Friday. Brown says rising COVID hospitalisations are threatening to overwhelm doctors. She said, “If we don’t act now, doctors, nurses, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in Oregon will be stretched to their limits treating severe cases of COVID-19.”

Oregon’s Governor is also partnering with state lawmakers to approve a 20 million small business emergency relief package, in an attempt to support affected businesses which have been seriously affected by the pandemic.

Meantime, in Washington State, Governor Jay Inslee is slated to order new restrictions next week for several counties to reduce their indoor gather capacity to 25 percent.

The level of vaccination in the mostly rural county is far short of what health experts say is needed. The Governors of all U.S. states are expected to make even more efforts to convince those who have yet to roll up their sleeves to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
