More than 60 deaths were reported in Oregon in the past day, with health officials saying the deaths have been tied to the heat.

In Seattle, tons of people tried to cool themselves off by swimming because many of them don’t have air conditioning at home. Washington state authorities had linked more than 20 deaths to the heat, but that number was likely to rise as the heat wave continues to bake the region.

According to health experts, the very high temperatures or humidity conditions posed an elevated risk of heatstroke or heat exhaustion.

The weather is expected to become cooler in the next couple of days.
