Fireworks, a concert and a rare outdoor ceremony were how North Koreans celebrated their late leader's 80th birthday, also known as the Day of the Sun.
Leader Kim Jong-un attended a state ceremony at Samjiyon city on Tuesday on the eve of his father's birthday.
The event, which featured flower shows, mass dances and laudatory tributes, saw participants resolutely throwing their weight behind Kim Jong-un. Which analysts say is a means to instill loyalty to the leadership.
Such a high-profile state event in North Korea is indeed a rare sight as Kim Jong-un holds onto his will to pursue prosperity in his embattled country while contending with various pressing issues such as the devastating pandemic and international relations.
