{O/C} Nichelle Nichols, who championed Black women's right in Hollywood, has passed away at the age of 89.

The dearly-departed actress once shattered barriers for Black women in Hollywood after playing Lt. Nyota Uhura on the 1966-69 TV series of "Star Trek."
Her lifelong position of honour as a result remains unsurpassed given she allowed for more acting roles involving Black women, other than servants.
More recently, she played a recurring role in "Heroes" as the great-aunt of a youngster.
She also won the support of Martin Luther King Jr., an assassinated civil rights activist.
Condolences are pouring in as many who she worked alongside commended the trailblazer's contribution to the movie industry as a tough act to follow.
